Scope of Work
Workgroup brief: to consider implementation of Eurocodes with particular reference to retaining
walls and steel piling
General
· Prepare user guide/worked examples to process of designing steel piles of all kinds
· Use information from forthcoming Piling Handbook and add more worked examples
· Review different arguments for dealing with water compiled and presented as NCCI
· Monitor Eurocode development
· Adopt watching brief on various piling codes, noting problems/ concerns and preparing solutions as they develop
· Influence various UK and European Code Committees, e.g. for ENs 1997, 1993-5, 10248, 10249, 12063, 12699
· Develop easy-to-use Eurocode design primer with supporting evidence
· Establish contact with members of piling related UK and Euro code committees to raise awareness of SPG
· Guidance note on CE marking
· How to demonstrate adequacy of a drainage system
· Depths and spacing of ground Investigation for sheet pile walls
Retaining walls
· Minimum fluid pressure to be considered in design
· Use of critical state (CV) parameters
· Application of partial factors to water pressures and vertical effective stress
· Choice between active or at-rest earth coefficients
· Is passive earth pressure a resistance or favourable action?
· Clarification on the use of wall adhesion, particularly after diving sheet piles
· Review CIRIA C580 guidance regarding dividing soil stiffness by 2
Bearing piles
· Application of water pressure in evaluation of effective stresses
